Ooookay, later than we’d like, but here we go!
All times pacific.
NNU @ CU-PDX @ 2pm
On paper we’re like “oh yeah, the Nighthawks just beat WOU and CU-PDX just lost to CWU, it’s easy, CU-PDX is gonna lose.” Except this is the GNAC, so no. While yes, we do think CU-PDX is going to fail in their quest to pull out a ‘W,’ we think should be a decently competitive and moderately exciting game. Rodrick Rhodes taking on his old boss in Paul Rush, and the more the season goes on, the more we wonder if it was Rodrick behind the magic in Nampa.
Prediction: NNU wins.
SFU @ SPU @ 4pm
Usually every team gets up to play SPU and yet… Will SPU get up to play SFU? They better, because Mike Provenzano has finally started to function. Harry Cavell has got to be more self disciplined with the shots, Wil Balata has got to be more disciplined with the turnovers, these are two of our favorite teams and yet as the first half of conference play comes to an end, all we can think about is how many problems both have to fix.
Prediction: Pick ’em.
UAF @ MSUB @ 4:15pm
Really intrigued to see what happens in this game. On the one hand, MSUB went toe-to-toe with Anchorage, while UAF got blown out, but… That was a rivalry game. It’s another situation where we think UAF has more talent and better coaching, but MSUB still has the best player in the game, and so we’ll see what Brendan does. Zharon Richmond has been playing a lot better as of late, which does help, but… Other guys really have to step up their contributions.
Prediction: Pick ’em.
CWU @ WOU @ 4:15pm
Are you ready for some aggressive Wolves? ‘Cause we suspect that’s exactly what the Wildcats are getting today. The Wolves are likely incredibly ticked off about their loss to the Nighthawks and absolutely ready to slaughter the Wildcats. While the Wildcats will do their darndest… Let’s be real: They almost couldn’t beat CU-Portland, despite a majority of their team actually functioning for a change.
Prediction: Wolves win.
WWU @ SMU @ 5pm
We’re actually excited about this match-up, despite the fact that it seems destined to be a WWU blow-out. The teams match each other really well style-wise, and so it should be good. We’re curious to see WWU’s solution for Marky Adams, because with Logan out they really don’t have an obvious guy. We assume Trevor Jasinsky, as the team’s best player will probably be in on it, but they could have him primarily defending Demonte Malloy, so… We’ll see. While we don’t expect the score to be interesting, we still expect the game to be intriguing in terms of what both teams do trying to out-pace the other.
Prediction: WWU wins.
Early games today. Hopefully that means plenty of highlights leading to Nightlights, again: We meant to write them on Thursday, but we fell asleep. The temp jumped up to the low-mid 50s and the allergies in Seattle are real.
Regardless: The post will be up by 11am tomorrow, as is typical.
We’ll be in our usual spot at the SFU/SPU game. As always, come say ‘hi’ if you want.
Be safe, have fun, go GNAC!
