Conference Game Day #7!

Goood morning.

UAF 75 @ NNU 83

NNU FINALLY STARTED FUNCTIONING THE WAY WE KNOW THEY CAN!!!!!!!!!! And no, it’s not “just against Fairbanks,” Fairbanks is pretty legit this year. Regional threat? Not quite. But definitely should be a conference tournament bound team. It was tied at halftime, and then the Nighthawks made some great halftime adjustments and never trailed in the second half, although they didn’t truly walk up and away until about seven minutes left, and even then Fairbanks kept it decently nailbiting.

Nanook highlights: Shadeed Shabazz went 11-12 from th eline and had five boards; Spencer Sweet had 16 points; Quinn Daugharty had five boards; Mawich Kachjaani had six boards; and off the bench Alex Sommerfield had five boards.

Nighthawk highlights: Beto Diaz had 13 points and five boards; George Reidy had 16 pionts and five fouls; and SPIDER played a whopping 29 minutes (super high for him) and had a full house among nine points and 17 boards. Off the bench Zac Furgerson had four boards; Zeke Alley had 22 points; and Gabe Murphy had five boards.

Big-ish win for the Nighthawks just in terms of getting back on track. Great to see Spider playing so many minutes. Sam Roth had a quiet game, but largely the Nighthawks functioned how they need to function night in and night out. Curious to see Beto Diaz regress so much, simply because it follows the usual GNAC pattern of guys peaking junior year.

UAA 50 @ CWU 84

CWU HAS FINALLY GOT THEIR POOP IN A GROUP!!!!!!! Hopefully. East schools comin’ after ya. The Wildcats never trailed. Not sure what really went wrong for Anchorage; they’ve had a lot of nights of guys having off nights, but they’ve still largely managed to keep it together, and yet… This one they didn’t. Bound to happen at some point, but still surprising to have happen at CWU of all places.

Seawolf highlights: DeAndre Osuigwe had seven boards; Niko Bevens had 15 points; and off the bench Oggie Pantovic had 10 points and six boards.

Wildcat highlights: Kevin Baker had five assists; Amari Stafford had 11 points; and Marqus Gilson had 18 points and eight boards. Off the bench Jeryn Lucas had 10 points and five boards; Gamaun Boykin had seven boards among a full house of stats; Matt Poquette had a full house of stats; and Tariq Wood yhad six boards and 13 points while going 5-6 from the line.

Nicely done Wildcats. Really not sure what it means, but we’ll continue to find out on Saturday.

SPU 87 @ SMU 63

This game was funny. It was a game for approximately two minutes, give or take. SPU went up, and then they went up some more, and then they went up some more, and then they stayed there and that was that. What made it funny though is that SMU actually put up really respectable numbers, score aside.

Falcon highlights: Carry Cavell had 17 points and six boards while going 5-6 from the line; Divant’e Moffitt had five boards among a full house of stats; Gabe Colosimo had 16 points; Filip Fullerton had nine points; and Shaw Anderson had 11 points and five boards. Off the bench, Braden Olsen had 10 points; Sharif Khan had four boards; Mehdi El Mardi had 10 points and four boards; and Jacob Medjo had nine points.

Saints highlights: Alex Schumacher had 13 points; Demonte Molloy was ON FIRE and had 19 points, 11 boards, and four assists; John Moore had 13 points and six boards; and Marky Adams had eight points and 11 boards.

Logan Rooney continues to be cold. SMU was definitely playing this game to win, despite being down by so much. SPU was… We’re not really sure what they were doing. Regardless, we’re ridiculously proud of the Saints, because largely they’re the best numbers we’ve seen them put up in quite a while, and yet… They lost by 20. And they won the rebounding battle by 10, so yay for moral victories!

Also: While their floor looks atrocious on screen, in person it’s totally fine and looks 100% normal.

CU-PDX 66 @ WWU 82

About what we expected, although it should be noted that CU-PDX kept it within reason until about halfway through the second half, so that’s progress.

Cavs highlights: Russell Tillery had five fouls and five assists; HUNTER SWEET had 25 points and nine boards; and off the bench Isaac Morrow had five points and five boards.

Viks highlights: Siaan Rojas had 16 points and eight boards; Jalen Green had 24 points and 13 boards among a full house of stats; and Trevor Jasinsky had six boards. Off the bench Leif Anderson went 6-6 from the line; and Cameron Retherford had 11 points, six boards, and four blocks.

Some really weird numbers on both sides. It appears that the Cavs decided to rest Dakota Ayala and as such, the Vikings rested Logan Schilder. Probably a smart move. No use for the Cavs taking the risk in an almost impossible to win game. Simon Fraser could be a possibility on Saturday, so save it. Still waiting for Leif Anderson to warm up, although credit where credit is due with the free throws; and then hopefully Tucker Eenigenburg gets back in the swing of things soon as well.

MSUB 96 @ SMU 67

We’re not sure how we feel about the Yellowjackets being the Saints by more than the Falcons. Maybe that it was more necessary for the Yellowjackets? Regardless, it’s a win, which is critical in the Yellowjackets having any hope for the conference tournament.

Jacket highlights: Chrishon Dixon had five boards nad six assists; Zharon Richmond finally made noise with 11 points and a whopping 14 rebounds; TYLER GREEN had an insane 38 points; STEVIE JAMES STARTED and had 16 points and six assists; and Brendan Howard finally was able to have his load reduced, but still had 16 points and six boards. Off the bench Clarence Daniels had six boards; Jordan Lehrer had five points; and Seth Christaens had five points.

Saints highlights: Alex Schumacher had five assists; Demonte Malloy continues to impress with 15 points and five boards; John Moore had 14 points;  Marky Adams had a mere five boards; and off the bench Logan Rooney had six boards.

Really interesting numbers from the Saints. Defense continues to be a struggle for them, both playing it and getting past it from the other team. Excited about the numbers from the Yellowjackets, but they head to Seattle on Saturday, so… Great warm-up game, but we’re sure lots to review before taking on the Falcons.

Good night of games. Really excited and intrigued by a lot of the results, and so… We’ll see you tomorrow morning for game previews.

Be safe, have fun, go GNAC!
