Previewing Today’s Games.

We’re in pre-panic mode, so let’s just get into discussing today’s games.

All times pacific.

UAF vs. Lake Superior State @ UAA @ 1pm

Lake Superior State is a very good team. We don’t have much hope for a win (although will be thrilled if they pick one up) so hopefully just good numbers and good teamwork to prepare them to win tomorrow against Northwood University.

Prediction: Lake Superior State wins convincingly.

CWU vs. Azusa Pacific @ SPU @ 3pm

On the one hand we want the Wildcats to win, on the other hand we feel like it just tanks the collective conference SOS because Azusa Pacific is supposed to be really good and a CWU win is likely to be flukey and so it probably wouldn’t help anyone (in any conference) if they did win. Life is hard when you’re a Wildcat.

Prediction: Azusa wins but CWU has some good moments.

WWU vs. MN-Moorhead @ SFU @ 5pm

MADNESS ON THE MOUNTAIN. If our passport wasn’t currently expired we would sooo go to this game just to get a tournament tee. MN-Moorhead is currently 3-0 and so it should be a good game. The SFU gym is really echo-y and we doubt many people from Moorhead are going to make it to this game, so WWU has potential. Hopefully the Vikings get the win.

Prediction: Pick ’em.

NNU vs. San Marcos @ CU-PDX @ 5pm

NNU is coming off of a close loss to NAIA rival College of Idaho, and so we’re not sure what to expect. Hopefully a very fired up group of Nighthawks, but San Marcos is currently 2-1 and the program seems to be on a big upswing, so… It’s seeming like the Cougars’ll get the win, but of course: the game has to be played.

Prediction: San Marcos wins.

UAA vs. Northwood @ 6pm

Why do we get the feeling that this tournament is made up of hockey schools that are familiar with UAA through that sport? Regardless, it should be a good opportunity for the Seawolves to pick up another win because Northwood is currently 0-2. We missed them when we went through non-con SOS because we assumed they were a tiny Canadian school, but ah well. They were 7-13 in conference last year. It’s not going to help anyone’s SOS. The good news is, it is a game, and the flight from Michigan to Alaska can’t be pleasant, and so… We’ve got high hopes. Hopefully they’re not misplaced.

Prediction: UAA wins.

SFU vs. Humboldt State @ 7pm

Hopefully the students turn up. If the students turn up, we have full confidence that the Clan can win. The bad news is, it’s a Friday night and reality says it’s Simon Fraser; will the students turn up? Seems kind of unlikely. But again: hopefully they do! Humboldt State is very manageable for the Clan, seeing as the Jacks were 6-16 in conference last year and have no D2 wins yet this year.

Prediction: Pick ’em.

CU-PDX vs. Cal State LA @ 7pm

We really want to be like YEAH CONCORDIA, YOU CAN DO THIS! Except Cal State LA is currently 2-1, with the one loss coming against Azusa Pacific by a mere two points. We’re not so sure about Concordia’s ability to do this. We’ll be crossing our fingers that we’re wrong.

Prediction: Cal State LA pulls out a win.

SPU vs. Westminster @ 7pm

SPU is on fire. They played UW; UW’s bus caught on fire. They went to Chico; east Chico caught on fire, and Chico State is now closed for two weeks. They went home; a warehouse near campus caught on fire, causing their own campus to be evacuated.

First D2 game for both teams; Westminster by choice, SPU by flame. Westminster was really good last year + eked out a win against SPU that the Falcons were none too pleased with. We weren’t pleased with Westminster either; the number of dirty looks we got for walking in with a cup of coffee was insane -it’s not an LDS (Mormon) school, it’s just a predominantly LDS student body. Here’s a thought: We stand with Sam Young.

We also stand with SPU, c’mon Falcons, get it done! You can do this. We 100% believe in you, you displayed such great and fundamental teamwork against UW, let’s do this!

Prediction: Pick ’em.

We’ll be following everything super closely on our phone, so by all means tweet at us -even if we don’t tweet it, we are 100% guaranteed to be sitting there overreacting to whatever is going on.

Be safe, have fun, go GNAC!!
