Our Pre-Season Poll vs. The Coaches Poll

Good morning! We’re not doing a ton of pre-season blogging this year because we feel like there’s not a whole lot to say. This year is definitely a transitional year for the conference except Alaska-Anchorage, and so while we’re really freaking excited for that team, we don’t want to write off or downplay any other just because it’s not inherently obvious how good they’re going to be.

With no one returning much (except UAA) the pre-season polls are particularly fun because they have some drastic variation.

Here’s the side by side comparison:

16-’17 Coaches GNACMBBlog
1 UAA UAA
2 WWU WOU
3 CWU SMU
4 UAF WWU
5 SPU SPU
6 WOU CWU
7 MSUB MSUB
8 SMU UAF
9 NNU NNU
10 CU-P CU-P
11 SFU SFU

Lots of similarities but also lots of differences. We really like the Coaches poll, but we also feel really comfortable and like our own poll.

The biggest differences are as follows:

WWU: 2nd vs. 4th.

We don’t trust the Vikings. We’re done trusting them. We like them, our season tickets are with them, blah blah blah homer, but prove it. It is time to prove it.

CWU: 3rd vs. 6th.

We’re guessing similar justifications are used and the coaches definitely know more about the team’s incoming recruits than we do, so this one makes sense.

UAF: 4th vs. 8th

This one we have no clue about. It honestly wouldn’t be surprising to watch the Nooks split the different at 6th.

WOU: 6th vs. 2nd.

Yeah, no, sorry, calling it now: The coaches are wrong. WOU has a lot of the same admissions advantages that CWU does, only they made it to the freaking Final Four last year.

SMU: 8th vs. 3rd.

Teamwork makes the dream work. We believe in team work, we believe in the team work of SMU. While 3rd is probably a little high, we’re firmly committed to the idea that they are going to make the conference tournament.

With all of that prognosticating… Hoops finally start next week! We’ve got a raging case of pneumonia. If you haven’t gotten your flu shot yet DO IT, and help keep awesome but immuno-compromised people like us safe!

Leave your own predictions (or tell us why we’re wrong/the coaches are wrong) in the comments.
