Helloooo and welcome to the first night of official GNAC play! If you’re an email subscriber, sorry for the duplicate post; logistical issue.
All times PST:
Seattle Pacific @ Simon Fraser @ 5:15pm
Teams tend to really get up to play the Falcons and so we expect the Clan to stay with them for a while, but SPU should pull away. In their last meeting some would say that Simon Fraser won; we would simply say that the Falcons lost behind the 4-15 free throw shooting of now-graduated center, Cory Hutsen. The Clan are going to want to prove the win, the Falcons are going to want to get warmed-up again after a big let-down game against East Bay.
MSU-Billings @ CU-Portland @ 7pm
Secondary nod for game of the night. It should be a battle. We expect MSUB to pull it out because CU-Portland’s only proven player is Tyler Gutierrez, whereas on the MSUB team we really like Jordan Perry, Marc Matthews, and Emmanuel Johnson.
Saint Martin’s @ Western Washington @ 7:30pm
Tradition dictates that we should predict WWU to kill SMU, but SMU came really, really close to beating the Vikings last year. We’re not quite sure what to make of this WWU team… We keep projecting wins and then they don’t, but it’s hard to bet against the Vikings, and tonight they should be really salty because of the loss to HPU and the impending game against SPU. Expect the Saints to put up a valiant effort before eventually collapsing down the stretch and WWU pulling away.
Northwest Nazarene @ Alaska-Fairbanks @ 8pm
Alaska Fairbanks more, NNU less. UAF has gotta be jonesing for a win after falling off both days in the Billings’ tournament. We don’t see things ending well for an NNU team that’s been struggling to beat NAIA teams.
Central Washington @ Alaska-Anchorage @ 9pm
Game of the night and it is going to be nuts. Alaska-Anchorage is coming off of huge wins and great performances by Suki Wiggs in the Great Alaska Shootout, Central Washington is going to be feeling ornery per usual. CWU received a few votes in the Coaches’ Poll this week and so they’re gonna want to go in and prove that they’re deserving, considering that so far their only D2 wins don’t look particularly good; Hawaii Hilo and Hawaii Pacific are a combined 1-4 against D2 competition.
Should be a good night. Nightlights? Maybe. Nightlights are kind of one of those things where guys on multiple teams have to have super good games in order for us to do them, so… Good luck, men. Get it done.
