This is an award that was seriously hemmed and hawed about. There were a number of deserving guys, but overall it’s going to the player that did the most to help their team win, whether they won or not. These awards shouldn’t be about winning or losing, but about putting the best product on the floor and making the guys around you better.
As such Austin Hudson from MSU-Billings gets the inaugural nod.
Austin is a senior center at 6’8 and somewhere in the realm of 260lbs. He’s a force in the paint and this week had 20 points, 12 rebounds, two blocks, and picked up four fouls in a loss to CSU-East Bay. He was less effective, eventually fouling out, with seven boards and eight points vs. the thorn in the GNAC’s side that is CSU-Stanislaus. Like many other players in the GNAC, he was plagued with some turnover blues, but ultimately did many good things for an MSUB team that is improving.
Congrats Austin and go Yellowjackets!
A post about last night’s games should be up soon.
